Dear Fellow Engineers,
It gives me immense pleasure to reconnect with all of you through this edition of our News Desk.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Tamil Nadu State Centre, celebrated the 58th Engineers’ Day on September 28, 2025, at Hotel Savera, Chennai, with great enthusiasm, on the theme “Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India’s Techade.” We were honoured to have Thiru. S. Regupathy, Hon’ble Minister for Natural Resources, Government of Tamil Nadu, as the Chief Guest, and Thiru. C. Valliappa, Chairman, Sona Institutions, as the Guest of Honour.
I would like to mention that the TPT Alumni Association generously donated Rs. 1 lakh on August 29, 2024, to institute the Sri Valliappa Eminent Engineer Award, in recognition of the outstanding contributions of Sri C. Valliappa, Chairman, TPT–SONA Institutions, to technical education and industry for more than six decades. This award will be presented annually on Engineers’ Day (September 15) to honour the Best Practising Engineer.
Further, as announced by Mr. Chocko Valliappa, Vice Chairman, Sona Institutions, during the Engineers’ Day Celebrations on September 15, 2024, an additional contribution of Rs. 4 lakhs was made by the Valliappa Foundation to the IE(I) Tamil Nadu State Centre to strengthen the Sri Valliappa Awards. With this generous support, a total endowment of Rs. 5 lakhs has been established to institute two prestigious annual awards:
1. Sri Valliappa Eminent Engineer Award for Best Practising Engineer
2. Sri Valliappa Young Scientist Award
The accrued interest from this endowment will be utilized each year to honour deserving recipients.
This year, the Sri Valliappa Eminent Engineer Award for Best Practising Engineer was conferred upon Dr. G. A. In addition to these awards, several other recognitions were presented to universities, engineering and polytechnic institutions, and industries across Tamil Nadu, celebrating their outstanding contributions and excellence in the field of engineering.
